About
A Book from the Stars is a simple service meant to help anyone discover new books to read.
There are many ways to choose your next read; the objective of A Book from the Stars is to broaden those tools.
The concept is based on the following logic: it is always of great help to look at things from another perspective, and often external ones can shed a different light on what we are trying to understand and analyze. Especially when those things are persons — be it ourselves or others — it can be hard to widen our understanding.
Astrology is not a science by the definition of the scientific method; the value it brings to reality is qualitative.
The idea behind A Book from the Stars arises from this: matching information about yourself — or about the person you are trying to understand better — with authors who left an imprint through written material, from a natal chart perspective. Books, poems, autobiographies and more.
The hypothesis is that an author with a certain constellation wrote in a way that could help you better understand your thoughts, or the thoughts of others, giving you a new perspective through words.
The heart of A Book from the Stars is a database of more than ten thousand writers, curated by hand over years. Birth dates come from public records; each chart is computed with a Swiss Ephemeris–based astronomical engine, from the birth date and place. Birth times are almost never publicly known, so placements are date-precise — honest about the one thing (mostly the Moon) that a missing hour can blur.
The ledger is alive: every week, authors newly appearing on the New York Times bestseller lists are verified against public records, charted, and added — so the writers of right now stand beside the writers of 1865.
A Book from the Stars is free and intends to stay that way — it exists to broaden how readers find books, not to charge for it.
